Should I create a Partnership or a Coalition?

Partnerships and coalitions are very similar, however, there is a distinct difference.  If the collaboration is with an individual or a single organization it should be reported as a partnership.  When several individuals or organizations are working together (regardless of the sector they are part of) they should be reported coalitions.

Note:  For SNAP-Ed, ST8 defines Coalitions as a multi-sector partnership involving five or more different sectors of influence.  This doesn't mean you can't record Coalitions with fewer sectors represented in PEARS, however, they may not all be included in reports.  The individual sectors include:

  • Food industry
  • Government
  • Public health and health care
  • Education
  • Community design
  • Public safety
  • Media
  • Agriculture
  • Commercial marketing
